Build optionality
- Constrain wants and needs, keep core functions small and agile
- Build and maintain flexible/multipurpose buffers such as health, wealth, skills, and relationships
- Broaden the range of things that can happen and still provide benefits (or be survivable)
- Rather than establishing binary goals, pursue activities where a range of potential outcomes are acceptable
- Pursue diverse and broadly useful experiences
- Choose activities and goals with non-linear upside and limited downside
- Avoid activities with a fixed upside and unlimited downside
- Focus on generating better options rather than making perfect decisions
